12 Aug Conversations in Treatment of Moderate to Severe Psoriasis for Healthcare Teams
Psoriasis / Live Meeting at Maui Derm NP+PA 2016
Packed with conversation-starting activities intended to turn the didactic paradigm on its head, the Conversations in Treatment of Moderate to Severe Psoriasis for Healthcare Teams symposium featured an integrated set of activities designed to not only keep learners interested but to ensure that interest remained contagious beyond the educational activities. Taking place at the Maui Derm NP+PA Summer 2016 meeting and the Maui Derm NP+PA Fall 2016 meeting, an audience of learners—nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and dermatologists—were engaged in several ways, including TED Talks-style presentations, fast-paced and interactive lectures, patient videos, an interprofessional roundtable, and a visual artist on hand to capture the event in a single image to provide an additional, enduring creative learning aid. Each symposium focused on critical aspects of the pathogenesis of psoriasis, issues related to patient care, and a review of approaches to diagnosing and treating psoriatic arthritis. Presenters included April W. Armstrong, MD, MPH; Lakshi Aldredge, MSN, RN, ANP-BC; Arthur Kavanaugh, MD; Neil Korman, MD, PhD; and Karen Hansen, MD, MS, who also participated in a multidisciplinary roundtable on providing team-based care for patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. A case-based educational activity for the same target audience was launched to provide a complementary educational experience in this clinical area. The content will be repurposed and integrated into future continuing education activities to educate, engage, and inspire new audiences of nurse practitioners and physician assistants who specialize in dermatology.
These activities were supported by an educational grant from Lilly.
